4 Shot at Howe Park - Large Unauthorized Party Erupts in Gunfire





On April 18 2026, an unapproved gathering of hundreds of people at Howe Community Park in Sacramento in Sacramento's Arden-Arcade area descended into chaos when upwards of 20 gunshots were fired as deputies from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office were in the midst of clearing the crowd.

What Happened

Around 6:30 in the evening, the SCSO was notified regarding people potentially carrying concealed firearms at Howe Community Park. A second report described a potential fight and individuals running from the park.

A sheriff's helicopter was called in and surveyed the area from above but failed to identify any ongoing altercation.

Even so, hundreds of individuals had collected at the park for what deputies referred to as an unsanctioned event. Law enforcement personnel positioned themselves around the park, turned on their emergency lights, and took about 15 minutes directing the crowd to leave using public address systems.

As deputies were in the process of dispersing attendees, 20 to 25 rounds of gunfire echoed through the area — causing hundreds to flee in a panic.

Shooting Victims

Four people — one female and three males, all believed to be in their 20s — were rushed to local hospitals. Two sustained immediate injuries, one suffered moderate injuries, and one with minor injuries. Each of the four victims was in stable condition. Metro Fire Sacramento assisted with on-scene medical triage in the field.

What Was Found at the Scene

The crime scene was located on the Cottage Way side here of the park alongside the Home Depot store at the 2200 block of Howe Avenue in Sacramento. The nearby Home Depot was temporarily locked down. Additional spent casings were discovered on Cottage Way, with rounds lodged found in the iron fence near the Home Depot store — indicating a shooter who fired southward from the Cottage Way area toward the Home Depot parking lot. Crime scene investigators and detectives investigated the scene well into the evening.

Suspects

Over law enforcement radio traffic, it was revealed that a suspect vehicle — here a Kia automobile — was detained in nearby Solano County with four people in custody. Sacramento County Sheriff's Office units were heading to Solano County to pick up the suspects and read more return them to Sacramento. Video confirmed the involvement of two shooters.
